Third  and Last Circular

This is the Third and Final Circular of the International Seminar "Logic and Belief in Indian Philosophy", organised by Warsaw University (Poland), to be held between 30 April - 5 May, 2006 in Warsaw and Bialowieza (Poland).

We recommend you print this THIRD CIRCULAR as well as the SECOND CIRCULAR and take it with you just in case.

Below you will find most important practical information.

YOUR ARRIVAL TO WARSAW

Make sure you arrive on 30.04.2006 (Sunday) at the latest.

The bus to the proper conference venue outside of Warsaw departs from the University Hotel ‘Sokrates’ at 9 o’clock a.m. on Monday, 1.05.2006.

GETTING TO THE HOTEL FROM THE AIRPORT

Our students will pick you up from the airport, railway station, etc., if you have provided us the exact details of your arrival to Warsaw (the hour, your airlines, number of your flight, from where). They will carry a sign INDIAN LOGIC and your name.

In case, for some reason, you cannot be met by anyone of us at the airport on your arrival, the University Hotel "Sokrates" (the address below) is approximately 15 minutes by taxi both from the Warsaw airport and the Warsaw railway station (the fare is approx. 20-30 PLN = 6-8 USD).

ACCOMODATION ON ARRIVAL

(in Warsaw)

The accommodation on 30.04.2006 (and before: 28-29.04.2006) is at the "Sokrates" University Hotel:

Hotel "Sokrates"

Smyczkowa Street 9

02-678 Warszawa

tel.:     +48 (22) 843 50 50

          +48 (22) 843 95 51 (reception desk)

ABSTRACTS

Abstracts of the papers to be presented will be available at our homepage in early April.

If anyone wishes to circulate the whole text of the paper before the seminar, please email the text to p.balcerowicz@uw.edu.pl and the text will be accordingly circulated among all the participants.

It is also possible to distribute the printed text to every participant on the very first day of the conference.

There is, however, no requirement to distribute the whole paper: a handout will suffice, too.

Please feel free to decide which option you prefer and which you think is more convenient to you and to other participants.

HAND-OUTS

during the Seminar

There are photocopying facilities at the seminar centre in Bialowieza.

However, for practical reasons it is advisable to bring an adequate number of photocopies of the handout (or of the whole text of the paper).

The suggested number of copies is 50.

CONVERSION OF DIACRITICS

If you send your abstracts, papers etc., please kindly use the @-system:

letter@ = any diacritical mark, e.g. long a = a@, long A = A@, etc.

The exceptions are:

palatal n = j@

palatal s = c@

guttural n = g@

SEMINAR FEE

The seminar fee (350 Euro) is to be paid in cash at the moment of registration on 30.04.2006 at the latest. No traveller's cheques are accepted.

It can be paid either in Euro, in USD or in Polish currency (according to the exchange rate of the day).

Another option, if you don’t want to carry cash with you, you could use a cash machine in Warsaw (there are some also at the airport) as well as in the vicinity of the university hotel “Sokrates”.

Still ANOTHER OPTION is to transfer the money directly to our account before the seminar (no cheques!), but in that case please make sure that you cover the expenses related to the bank draft. The details are as follows:

DEPARTURE FROM BIALOWIEZA TO WARSAW

(after the seminar)

Departure from Bialowieza: 9 o’clock a.m., 5.05.2006 (Friday).

Arrival to Warsaw: approx. at 13.00 (1 o’clock p.m.).

Please take this into account while booking your flight home, and schedule the time of your departure from Warsaw airport not earlier than 16.00 (4 p.m. on Friday).

DEPARTING FROM BIALOWIEZA TO WARSAW

on your own

If you wish (or have) to leave Bialowieza EARLIER than scheduled (5.05.2006, 9 o’clock a.m.), you can try it on your own as follows:

BUS CONNECTIONS

[OPTION 1]

You take a bus from Bialowieza to Bialystok [we’ll put you on the bus], then you have to change in Bialystok for Warsaw. However, the trip is not very convenient. The connections are as follows:

(step 1) departure [Bialowieza (seminar venue)] > arrival [Bialystok] (distance: approx. 110 km)

5:55 > > > > 8:24

17:00 > > > > 19:40

[Here an option would be to take a taxi from Bialowieza to Bialystok and continue on a bus; a taxi would cost somewhere between 110-150 USD]

(step 2) departure (to Bialystok) > arrival (to Warsaw) (distance: approx. 190 km)

5:20 > > > > 9:05

6:50 > > > > 10:15

13:10 > > > > 16:55

15:35 > > > > 19:15

[OPTION 2]

Another option is as follows:

First you take a taxi from Bialowieza to HAJNOWKA (the distance is 18 km, approx. 17-20 USD), and then continue by train. The train connection is as follows:

departure (from Hajnowka) > arrival (to Warszawa Centralna)

17:36 > > > > 21:20

TRAIN CONNECTIONS

Unfortunately, there are no direct train connections to Bialowieza. You would have to take a train to HAJNOWKA, and then get to Bialowieza by a local PKS bus.

Warsaw - Hajnowka:

departure > > > > arrival

    06:03  > > > > 09:47

    13:15 > > > > 17:55

Please note that we do not recommend going to Warsaw on your own: it takes a long time with local busses (even 10 hours) and is not very comfortable.

HEALTH INSURANCE

You might want a health insurance, just in case.

CURRENT EXCHANGE RATES

1 EURO = 3.80 PLN

1 USD = 3,16 PLN

100 YEN = 2,72 PLN
